Samuel W Shaw Band Program Travel Credits Fundraising Program
When you, your family and friends purchase gift cards to use at grocery stores you already shop at, a rebate goes back to your child’s fundraising account. There is no additional cost to you; a $100 gift card order costs you $100, and your gift card value will be $100. A percentage of that $100 goes back into your child’s own fundraising account.
Cards are used like cash, and you can still take advantage of store promotions, collector rewards and coupons offered by the store.
Sobey’s allows the gift cards to be used for grocery merchandise only: you are not allowed to use the gift cards to purchase other gift cards, lottery or transit tickets, or at Sobey’s Wines and Spirits stores.
Co-op does allow you to use the gift card towards the purchase of gifts cards for other retailers (such as iTunes, Home Depot, restaurant chains, and movie theatres) that are sold in their stores, as well as gas, transit passes, and prescriptions. If you wish to use gift cards at Co-op Wines and Spirits stores, please let us know- a separate gift card will then be issued.
HOW TO EARN TRAVEL CREDITS
The power of group purchasing is used to generate the best possible rebate. For example: If your family orders $500 in Calgary-Co-op gift cards in October to use in their stores for grocery items, prescriptions, transit/lottery tickets, or at their gas stations, and our total group order for October is more than $5000, then you will receive a credit of $27 to your student’s travel account for October (90% of the rebate to the student’s travel account, 10% to the band’s general fund).
Orders and payments for Safeway/Sobeys and Co-Op gift cards will be done through the SWS Band Program. Once per month, we will place a group order and you or your student pick up the cards from the band office on the first of the following month.
The larger the value of the band’s order-and each month, the orders are combined into one so that the order is as large as possible- the larger the rebate, and the greater the amount we pass on to your student’s account.
The rebate amounts for each store is as follows:
Sobey’s minimum order (October 1st to December 31st)– $500
-2% on orders from $500 to $1,999
-4% on orders from $2,000 to $3,999
-6% on orders from $4,000 to $9,999
-8% on orders $10,000 and up
Sobey’s minimum order (January 1st to September 30th)-$5,000
-0% on orders less than $5,000
-5% on orders from $5,000 and up
Calgary Co-op minimum order (year round)-$2000
-2% on orders from $2,000 to $4,999
-6% on orders from $5,000 to $9,999
– 9% on orders $10,000 and up

- Complete the attached order form
- Make cheques payable to Samuel W Shaw School Band Association
- Include post-dated cheques for each store for each month
- Bring in your order form and post-dated cheques to the August registration or, if adding to an order throughout the year, return the form and payment to the band office by the 15th of each month.
- You can order for the full year Cheques will not be cashed until the first of each month.
- Ordering in advance is preferable, as we can determine if we will make our $5000 minimum for Safeway/Sobeys well in advance and helps the program run smoothly.

GIFT CARD FUNDRAISING FAQ
· Do the gift cards expire?
No, none of the cards expire. You use them just like cash and the balance declines as you use them.
· Why are you not running Superstore cards through the group purchase program?
As this is a new initiative for us, we are focusing on the grocers that provide the largest possible rebate. Superstore’s rebates are considerably lower than Sobey’s or Co-op’s, but we may add Superstore at a later date, if the demand is there.
· Will I be able to add to my order throughout the year?
Yes, you can use the same order form to add orders throughout the year—for instance, perhaps you find that you could use a few more cards in Dec to give as gifts or to buy holiday groceries. Your order will have to be received in the band room by the 15th of the month to be included in the next month’s order. We will check each month for extra orders. Orders later than the 15th will not be processed.
· What dates should I put on my cheques?
Date each cheque for the 1st of each month. Our first order will be in September of 2017, so if you are ordering your first set of gift cards for October, your first post dated cheque should be October 1st, 2017.
· When will my cheques be deposited?
The orders will be ready for you at school as close to the end of each month as school opening days allow. Your cheque will be deposited on the 1st, and cards will be available as close to the 1st as possible . There should be very little delay between the time your cheque is deposited and the time you have cards to use.
What happens if we don’t meet the $5000 minimum order for Sobey’s between January and September?
By taking orders for the whole year at once, we hope to know in advance the size of the orders, and can then encourage additional orders in time. If we cannot meet the $5000 minimum, we will let you know and your cheque(s) will be returned. We cannot guarantee there won’t be cancelled orders—that depends on the group’s overall participation.
· Will my cards be here for 10% Tuesday at Sobey’s/Safeway each month?
We cannot guarantee it, but we will do our best to have cards to the school as soon after the first of the month as school opening days allow.
What happens to unused funds in my student’s travel account?
If you have raised more than you need, or the funds are otherwise not required, you can designate the funds to another SWS band student, have the account paid out in cash at the end of the school year, or donate the funds to the general SWS Band Fund.
